Manor Royal BID’s latest Micro-Park have been officially opened on the Business District.

The Manor Royal BID, working with Crawley Borough Council, West Sussex County Council, the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership and others, has led on the development and delivery of a series of projects to improve the public realm, facilities and infrastructure in Manor Royal

The importance of good outdoor space, strong public realm and easy access to good facilities has never been so important. Eventually these small park areas will form part of a wider network of parks so that no employee from any business will be more than a five minute walk from decent outdoor space.

The latest Micro-Park is now open on Fleming Way outside The Base, the brand new industrial development providing two high specification warehouses of 147,000 square feet and 88,700 square feet.

The project had in principle support from previous owners of the site, Virgin Atlantic, and later from developer Marchmont.

The approach to developing each Micropark, including the latest one at The Base, captures the story and heritage of the local area and the brand new park at the Base has been created by Allen Scott Landscape Architects working with artist James Hopkins.

This particular Micro-Park project is funded by Manor Royal BID as part of a partnership with Crawley Borough Council and the Crawley Towns Fund.  The intention is that further Micro-Parks in Manor Royal will be funded through Towns Fund and approved by the government as part of the Crawley Towns Fund programme.

Councillor Atif Nawaz, Cabinet member for Planning and Economic Development at Crawley Borough Council, said:

“Improving the business environment and boosting the attractiveness of Manor Royal is key to attracting better quality business investment and increasing the amount of green space is a key part of that. I’m delighted that we’re helping deliver the priority of delivering urban regeneration.”

Steve Sawyer, Executive Director of the Manor Royal BID said;

“This is the latest part of a much bigger vision for improving Manor Royal. It’s important Manor Royal people have access to decent facilities and open space, and that the place generally looks good. We are grateful for the support of Town Deal Board for the funding and are already planning the next round of projects.”
